If you didn’t make it down to the 2010 3rd Annual Tequila Festival, you still have one last day to sample mouth watering tequilas or buy whole bottles; have an ice cold Tecate or a Bud Light (I don’t know if they have Bud) but the best thing is you get to see a Natasha James Concert. Listening is one thing but watching and listening is a mind blower. Seriously, if you didn’t get a chance to stop by, she will perform one more day beginning at 3:00 p.m. Tavo’s Revolution follows. The cost of admission to the festival is 50 pesos. The Natasha James concert is courtesy of Kat’s Korner, Octavio Ascolani, owner of Baja Mar Restaurant; Curt Porter, son of the late Marvin Porter, an Indy 500 winner who was a long time San Felipe resident and he was honored at the 1st Annual Tequila Festival about 2005 I believe and Javier Lachuga of Select Tequilas. At any rate, bring a jacket as it does get a bit chilly when the wind picks up off of the Sea of Cortez. However, it’s beautiful during the day. You can see photos of Friday and Saturday by clicking on this link to Kats Korner Galleries. There are two options and you want to click on the Web Me icon and the first two albums, Tequila Time II and 2010 3rd Annal San Felipe Tequila Festival, are the latest and if you click on the first photo, scroll down to the lower left and you can see a slide show or whatever other viewing options it gives you.

A Child’s Garden, with Kenneth Whitmore and Bonny McNair, co-founders, were at the gate of the festival, selling buttons to raise money for the foundation to pay for supplies and equipment. On your way in to the festival, be sure and pick up a pin and help the kids and adults who need medical treatment. It’s too bad it was the same day as the Las Amigas Poker Run because I heard that was a blast. A friend of mine took the scenic route and came in last, of course, but she got lost but it was probably a man driving. I really don’t know who was driving, but I thought I would throw out that stereotypical crack. Today at 1:00 p.m. is the send off for Rayray Lloyd, as I called him and also known as Ray Lloyd. I hope to at least drop in and pay my respects because he was a good guy; a bit opinionated, but we can’t all be perfect. He will be missed.
It was nice to meet new people who read Kat’s Korner and I met a few both days. One woman from Costa Mesa I believe and staying at the Fish Club, told me she and her husband read and enjoy Kat’s Korner each day and one man told me he knew when I was writing the night before and he knows to check again in the afternoon because my posts are sometimes “late” and I really do love to meet the people who read my dribble. We all must all have the same senses of humor and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. Rumor has it there is a new manager at the Marina (where the boats are moored). A changing of the guard, so to speak. I noticed just a couple of days ago, but John tells me it’s been there for three weeks, that the Beachcomber is for sale. It looks like the V-Lounge is also for sale. I think pretty much anything is for sale in San Felipe if you think about it. I keep ranting about the State Department issuing their travel alerts right before Spring vacation and Easter. How convenient. Oh well, all we can do is hope people do a little research on our town and listen to some You Tube testimonials about safety here. We really need tourism in our little village by the Sea, so please don’t be afraid to come to San Felipe. The racers are coming with their families and you’ll have a great time while you’re here and you’ll be safe and warm. Most of the restaurants have specials for breakfast, lunch and dinner and many of the motels have reasonable rates. Remember, in Mexico, many hotels we call motels because that word “motel” has a different connotation in Mexico, so don’t be surprised if your room is a motel room and not a hotel room.
El Dorado Ranch is having their third annual El Dorado Pickleball Tournament March 12. Friday of next week is the mixed doubles starting at 7:30 a.m. and I’ve been invited to film it and perhaps do a pod cast to learn how pickle ball came to San Felipe. Visitors are welcome to attend and if you time it right, you can still make it to contingency on the Malecon for the San Felipe 250. Remember, we all have to start referring to it as is the proper way which is the “MasterCraft Safety-Tecate Score San Felipe 250“. Contingency is on the Malécon Friday morning and you can see all of the race cars and it’s really a very cool time. The Maécon is packed with people and cars and very high energy. It’s one event you’ll not want to miss. This photo was taken in 2008.

One other event fast approaching is the Cancer Walk. We need to get the word out and get your husbands and family members walking too. If you’ll listen to the pod cast of Jan Goode and Dr. Baccera, you’ll be surprised at the amount of cancer cases that have been diagnosed and only because of the monies received through fund raisers and the Camianeta para Cancer or Cancer Walk is one of the most important for San Felipe. This year the theme is prostrate cancer and by that I mean the funds collected from this walk will buy and fund detection and cure of prostrate cancer in men who have never been checked. So, bottom line. This is a humanity walk (these are my words) and we need to try and make this one of the biggest and most successful cancer walk in all of Mexico. I believe ours was the first in Mexico, but if it wasn’t it should have been. (Gotta cover my butt in case I’m wrong).
By now you’ve had a chance to view the new look to Kat’s Korner. Please feel free to comment. I have received a few emails which were very nice and I do appreciate it. It’s only going to get better, so stay tuned. A big thank you to Stacy for painting the trim on the new office. It was supposed to be a surprise, but I heard about it purely by accident. Thanks to Dan and Bubba for painting and we should have the secure Internet line in no later than Wednesday. Reminds of the local old timer’s yuk yuk when a new resident would say “I can’t go any where today (being a Friday) because Telnor is going to be here”. We would all chuckle and say “They said Friday; but they didn’t say which Friday.” That was when they were having so much trouble with the boxes, which have since been replaced. That is by far the most expensive work of art around and I believe we have the Swiss to thank for the little wall boxes.
Have a great Sunday. If you’re driving back, be safe and allow for time at the border and please do not drink and drive, especially with the detours. The La Plazita Penthouse will be open Monday through Friday from 9-2 and Saturday, 10-1:00 p.m. Please stop by and say hello and check out the view and the new Net – Home of Kat’s Korner.

Hi Kat
We wanted to get into town and see your new digs but did not make it. We got involved in the races.
We came from Ensenada Friday and the road is not too bad if you have a truck or high SUV the worst stretch is around Valle de Trinidad and Independcia. A lot of the pot holes have been filled, but your driving skills will be tested.
My husband said he will have trouble driving in the States because he thinks he will not be able to drive in a straight line or on the correct side of the road.
We are going back to Ensenada on Monday our long weekend will be over. So it is back to school for us (teachers) we will return on Friday.
Love your new look.
Samantha.
Hi Kat
Thanks for the info on the Ensenada to San Felipe road. We will be driving it on Friday. We live and work in Ensenada and usually come every second or third weekend but the rains made a mess of the road and haven’t been down since the end of January. Looking forward to some San Felipe sunshine. Hope to see you at the Plazita.
Samantha
Kat, I like the new logo, and hope you and your staff the very best, and would wish you the greatest success in the coming year. today we are relaxing as it is Bonny Day and this is what she wants. Thanks from Jarden De Los Ninos, A child’s Garden, and Kenneth Whitmore and Bonny McNair, you go
Hi Kat.
Have any of your readers done the Ensenada to San Felipe since Valle de Trinidad was washed out.
Any info would be appreciated.
Love the new look.
Very effective! A great improvment.
this box is too big, it needs to be smalled in case someone wants to complain!! still planning to see you the end of the month, I have sold my business effective sep. 1st so next year I can be a pain in the –tt for a couple months or more
BajaMickey – we are desperately searching for a “smalled” specialist to correct the problem. In the mean time, I haven’t had any complaints, yet!! See you soon. La Gata
Kat,
I love the new look of the site! And thanks for sponsoring Natasha. It is great for the town.
A few months ago, you asked for information from developers to post. Anything happening with that?
I noticed you had a new spot for classified ads. Are you going to start with a fee for those?
Thanks again for all your efforts.
Dave Welling
Nice site Kat! Heading’s a bit big though, lots of scrolling needed to read anything.
Does this mean you are now officially a blog, and no longer “not a blog”?
la Gata Bonita…The new website is FABULOUS! You have created an awesome Website and I’m so proud of you! Keep up the good work. Saludos, Denny.
La Gata, Congratulations on your new corner, both on the web and at the La Plazita. The new web site is so easy to navigate and I love the exchange rate available to me daily without going to another site. I am hanging out on your corner daily, usually in the AM. Your new physical location is terrific as well — very handy for us locals. Best of luck, Sea ya’ Sandi
I have to agree with you Sandi. This is a really neat web experience, it makes me want to visit San Felipe soon.
Best regards.
