I didn’t post anything yesterday on the Korner and that’s because it was my daughter’s birthday and to tell you the truth,  I forgot until evening and by that time, it was a bit late.  Another Monday in San Felipe and things are a bit quiet I hear.  The weather up here has been a bit chilly, except when the wind dies down.  It is so beautiful when it’s sunny.  So my daughter turned 33 yesterday and Hop-a-Long came down for a mini party.  She got Avitar for a gift and so we all watched it and I’m telling you – it’s the longest movies I think I’ve seen, except for Ben Hur.  I believe it was 166 minutes but the special effects were pretty good.

I took the photo above with my new wide lens and what a treat.  No more asking people to squish together.  The only problem is the cover around the lens blocks part of the flash so there is a shading at the bottom of some of the photos.  They did mention it in their instructions, so I’ll figure out what to do to remedy the problem.  I just re-read the “Caution Regarding Use of Built-in Flash”.  They tell me I must use an external flash when using the lens.  Bummer.  Oh well, another photography item to save for.  My grandson doesn’t like to have sticky hands, so he wipes them on his hair.  Bath time.

I was reading Tony’s latest post on the news page of sanfelipe.com.mx and it appears the Governor of Baja has announced that Mexicali does not need any more supplies for the earthquake victims.  Maybe he hasn’t been to all of the ejidos yet but I would think there are still people who are homeless.  The governor is worried the food items will spoil before they are disbursed but he is quoted as saying there is no need.  I’m hoping it’s because of the great response from the public.  Vamos a ver.

For those who are experiencing loading problems, Luis has been working on the problem and I quote: “Hi Kat, it took me most of yesterday and today, but now the website has been optimized for users with slow connections.  There was no need to create a special version of the website.  Also any visitor using Internet Explorer 6 will receive a kind message inviting to upgrade to a modern browser.  Comments regarding this issue should dramatically decline.” Luis has been working long hours to get Kat’s Korner to where we want it and we still have much more for your reading enjoyment.  This is a photo of a dear friend I’ve know for 35 years.  Marilee and her husband Don travel to Puerto Vallarta each winter as they have for the last 25 years.

Tony also mentioned the latest password grab on Gmail.  Evidently there are hackers out there who are getting into your email accounts.  Tony stresses the importance of using a secure line when doing any financial transactions and that means, don’t use an unsecure wireless and I would even go as far as when banking, don’t use wireless period.  It’s too easy to swipe your information.  Fresh, seedless watermelon which was delicious.

Dario de Baja or Darryl Silva has a new article entitled “San Felipe Norte” which you may read in our Articles section.  Here’s a short preview: “There was a time in the “old country” I would leave my home to do a few errands around town. You know the drill: Bank, grocery store, Walgreens, etc. When I’d finally pull back into my driveway I may have driven seventy five miles. This was a common occurrence. We never thought much about the number of miles and time involved. After a while, this scenario became the norm. This was especially true if children were involved. You might end up being the chauffeur, but this was a small price to pay to know where the kids were and that they were safe. I mean what was a few extra ten or twenty miles?  When Dario first started writing, we called it Dario’s Baja Salutations and the accent was on the B and the S.  However, his writing is far from b.s. and I’m sure you’ll enjoy his latest story.

Happy Birthday to the Illustrated Lady.  I hear she has a birthday coming up and if you know Marci Mark, get in touch with her and she’ll fill you in on the scoop.  I will be writing each day I’m gone and posting mostly photos of my grandson.  However, if you have a photo you’ve taken around San Felipe, feel free to send it to me and I’ll post it.  My buddy Ms. Rice is traveling around the country and what a trip to the Grand Canyon while it was snowing.  Khye Ray Blair watching his favorite new DVD, Cars. Happy Manic Monday!
