It’s hump day again in San Felipe and this week is just screaming by. I had to meet Donna Roberts down town, so I stopped at Fat Boys and had a sandwich. I did get the scoop on the new venture at Playa de Oro. They will be giving up the pizza place currently down below the restaurant as they’ll need their pizza oven at “Rumors Beach Bar and Grill” and Friday, May 28 they will open their doors. Friday is not going to be the grand opening party, just the first day open.
While we were sitting outside, a group of people walked by and one of the women recognized me from Kat’s Korner. They were in search of Name That Tune with Denny Flannigan and his entourage. Unfortunately, I had to tell them the show isn’t playing right now, but hopefully, we’ll have them back at the beginning of the season or before. They were also looking for something to do on Wednesday and Thursday nights and I believe Baja Boys is at Jollymon on Thursdays, but check with them to be sure. Also, this group will be gone by Saturday, but Vatos Locos are at Jollymon on Saturdays and of course, Agave Blues on Friday night. A great group of people who appreciate reading about San Felipe via Kat’s Korner while they are away. Tammy Accinelli; Janet Antonini; Pam Baker and Whitney Smith and don’t ask me which one is the man’s name, unless it’s Whitney!
I had meant to make it out to Baja Java for dinner, but something came up and I couldn’t but I did hear that the food was great and if the people support it, Karen will make a homemade dinner once a month. Don’t forget about her bakery! I had to go to the Seguro Social office today and speak with Gabby, who is in charge there. If you recall, the U-Tube video I made last year of the Mexican gals dancing at the party after the poker run, is still on U-Tube and you can see it here and it has 1,874 views. Gabby said they were going to practice this year! At any rate, her daughter wrote me tonight and sent me a copy of their poster. The restaurant opens at 8:00 a.m. where you can register and the poker run starts at 11:00 a.m. There is a party afterward and last year was a lot of fun, so try and make it out.
I spoke with Cesar at the bank today and he’s supposed to send me the specifics in writing regarding new hours, etc. out at the ranch. From what I gather, the Pavillion will be closed except for special events and one of those is the swap meet (or I guess the newbies are calling it the vendors market) and it will be held in the event room of the Pavillion and he’s pretty sure food vendors will be allowed too, as they won’t be selling food at the Pavillion. I’ll let you know for sure when I hear back from him. The rest of the time will be split between La Palapa and Juanito’s Cantina. I think he said he would have La Palapa open three days a week and the rest of the time Juanito’s would be open. Sounds like the good old days. Stay tuned for the rest of the story. Evidently, the Flaminco show which was scheduled has been postponed and someone asked me today when the Salsa Dancing Contest was. Sorry guys – it’s a Salsa making contest but I heard today they were going to move it from Campo San Rafael to Playa de Oro, but I’ll let you know as it’s not scheduled for another month.
This is a photo of the little monster Muffy just thinking about how she’s going to jump the fence. Little brat. By the way, if anyone is interested in five dogs, I’ll pay you to take them!
Also, this Saturday and Sunday is the sand Volleyball Tournament on the beach at El Dorado Ranch and everyone is welcome to join in the festivities. If you’ve already formed a team, then you’ll just have to register, but I believe you can go as a single. There are lots of activities planned for this weekend and it being a long weekend, we should have some tourists in town, at least I pray we do. This weekend down south is also the El Vergel Volunteer Fire Department fund raiser on Sunday, May 30 at 1:00 p.m. Please check our event page for more specifics.
I’m going to be at El Dorado at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning to play tennis so I’ll schedule this posting to go up at about 1:00 a.m so you have something to read when you get up. I almost forgot. Vickie Silva gave me a small sheet of paper which had the date, time, place, etc. for the pre-craft sale. If you could send me that info again, I’ll post it. Sorry Vickie – We were at the swap meet so I’m not sure if i put it in my pocket and it’s now in the wash, or in my purse and if that’s the case, it may as well be lost.
The Sweet Spot will be hold their grand opening very soon. I’m not clear if it’s by invitation only so I’m not going to post the invite until Steph lets me know, but it’s Thursday, May 27 so you may want to give her a call at 577-6366. It’s not a rumor anymore – La Tarraza – formerly where Baja Java was upstairs and also where you saw the same menu as Baja Java, is closing it’s doors. Okay, time to saw some logs or I’ll never make it up at 5:30 a.m. and yes, I ought to have my head examined. I almost forgot to post this cute photo of Judy Fraiser who lives with her hubby, Glen down south. They also live in Montana and I’ve known them both a long time. Nancy did her hair and she had a pedicure and then she bought a new dress for a wedding and the top she has on is a one size fits all and comes in many colors. I almost bought one myself and I still may cause they are so cute and only $20.00. Now, can you believe she’s going to be 70 her next birthday? I should look so good. Keep up the good work Judy and we’ll see you next season.
Remember the birds nest in the cactus I showed you last week. I think they must be expecting a bunch of baby birds because it’s doubled in size and some of the waste they’ve added to their house blows me away. Ingenious little birds aren’t they. Have a great hump day and hasta mañana!
