“It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to, cry if I want to” – remember that song? It is officially my 60th year on this earth.  I never thought I’d make it past 30.  At any rate, it’s hump day in San Felipe and I’m still waiting on the bee man.  He’ll be back when he’s got all of his bee boxes ready and he did say he would have to make a lot of trips back and forth.  I believe he has his own little bee farm and he’ll capture the honey while he’s at it.  I may keep the small one because they do pollinate the yard nicely.  I haven’t checked my email this morning, but I did receive a confirmation telephone call this morning from the Illustrated Lady and she informs me my party at Al’s Backstreet Bar is still on (although a lot of people are out of town) between 7 and 7:30 p.m.  Drop by if you’re in the hood or drive into town if you’re not.  By the way, if anyone has seen this woman, would you please tell her about Al’s.  She used to be my new best friend, but I think she ditched me.

I went swimming for the first time this year and the water was just cool enough although warm to be comfortable in the 90 F plus weather we’ve been having.  There’s a new addition on Kat’s Korner and you can see it here.  In addition to the “Walkabouts” we’ll be featuring different places to play or eat in San Felipe.  Luis is working on the editing of our last “Walkabout” at Warren and Debbie’s Rancho de la Vaca.  While with my grandson, Turtle, he started jabbering so I handed him my iPhone, which has a recorder on it.  It was one of those, you had to be there moments but it was very cute watching him “give a memo”. By the way, Apple has reported they sold more iPhone 4′s the first day than any other product in their history.  I am happy to say I will be trading my iPhone 3G for the new one next week.  This little sucker takes HD movies!

Also, Wallmart had a great sale on E-Machine laptops with built in camera and a side numerical pad for $298 so if you stop by La Plazita, you can use it.  It also has a card reader built in, in case you fill up your simm card and you need a dvd burned.  Most businesses down San Felipe way are on definite summer hours and I’ve told you the reason before.  Residents receive a subsidy from the government to help with the huge bills during hot summer months.  They do not subsidize small or large businesses which is why many close during the summer.  Because our economy is so bad and tourism isn’t much better, I’m pleading with you residents of San Felipe and surrounding areas – please shop locally and spread the wealth around.  I know you can probably get your tile or your lumber or whatever cheaper in Mexicali or the United States, but helping the community you have chosen to be your home is very important, especially in these hard times.

Another note about the golf course at La Ventana del Mar – Las Caras de Mexico: The golf course is closed until September 1, BUT the driving range will be open as stated below.  Ed Jones sent a message from Jeremy Kemp, who I imagine is the man in the know:  “Below are the hours and days that the driving range will be open and run by the volunteers.  Thanks, Jeremy Kemp.  Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 10AM to 2 PM.  Thanks for helping to get the word out.” So there you have it and you may also golf at the sand range at Campo Ocotillos.  It’s free for residents or leaseholders, but I think you have to kick down a few bucks if you don’t live at the best little campo around.  I’m going to read my email and revise or add where appropriate, so stay tuned.

  5. Hi Kat,

Happy Birthday!! – I think we still haven’t “officially” ever met but we’ve seen you around town lots. My husband and I read Kat’s Korner to keep up with our favorite Mexico happenings. Our house is solar, so we don’t come down in the Summer, but come Fall – we’ll be BACK! Really enjoyed seeing the pics of last week’s event at the newly named Rumor’s. Wish we could have been there.
Hello to all the wonderful people down there in SF and thanks for all the great pics and info.

    Debbie (aka Blondie)
