Happy Labor Day and hopefully, most of you won’t have to work today.  I fell asleep with my grandson last night about 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. and woke up around 12:30 p.m.  It’s now 3:41 a.m. and I’m just getting ready to go back to bed.  I may put this is drafts and work on it after I wake up, but I wanted to show you a few photos of the sunrises I took at my mother’s condo.  She is looking great and feeling a lot better and although she’s on oxygen, she’s alive and kicking.  We had a nice visit and I’ll see her on my way back from Iowa.  This is my mommy, Shirley Strilchuck.  Photo by Kat.

If you are earning money in any capacity in Mexico, whether it be through donation, renting your condo or house, or selling a piece of property. It is your obligation to report and pay taxes to Hacienda on that income.  Just a heads up as the authorities are going to be cracking down on people working “under the table” or illegally, so watch your back.  If you have any kind of business in San Felipe or Mexico in general, Tony has written a very good news article on the new laws involving depositing money and other good stuff, so give it a read on our Late Breaking News here.  This is a photo of the sunrise over Bitter Lake.  Photo by Kat.

But, I like this photo I took which shows the reflection on the water and a bit of the pink sunrise.  Nothing beats a San Felipe sunrise, however, or a sunset except maybe “El Set” in PV.  Everyone sits on the balcony outside and applauds the sunset and of course, the restaurant is called “El Set” because it was the set they used to film an Elizabeth Taylor movie.  The next shindig planned in San Felipe is our 200 years anniversary of the revolution and I encourage local American and Canadians to join in the celebration as long as you’re living in Mexico.  As soon as I get a schedule of events, I’ll let you know, but the party is at the baseball field.  Photo by Kat.

Please don’t forget I have six puppies under my house and I have a feeling they won’t be under there when I get back, so if you want a pup, please let me know or let Luis know and we’ll get you one.  I also need someone with a cage who can catch the two foster tree pups (I’ve had two years) to have them spayed or I’ll have to call animal control.  I just can’t have any more dogs, period. I’ve paid my dues and spent more money on dog food and vet bills since 1996 that I don’t have to feel guilty about our street dogs.  I feel bad for them, of course, and I will always stop with throw them some food, but my point is I’ve done my share and I’m not going to feel guilty about it.  With the economy the way it is these days, all these fundraisers are getting a bit out of hand and as a local, it’s not easy to attend and donate to every new or old project someone thinks of.  I’ll donate for educating kids, but, if any more charitable foundations just “pop” up they can simply “pop down” as far as I’m concerned.  I think our little town (San Felipe) needs the help now and we ought to all pull together to help San Felipe get back on its feet and help employ some of the locals without jobs who have families to feed.  For example, some of our local restaurants are going out of business because there is no business.  There are civic groups who meet each week or each second week, but they meet at the same place every week.  Why not spread the wealth and have your meetings at different restaurants thereby giving a little business to the entire town and not just a selected few.  It’s not that tough to send out an email to remind people the meeting is at this restaurant this week and I know the restaurant owners would greatly appreciate it.  It’s really none of my business as I do not belong to any of these groups, although I have supported their projects, but the Port of San Felipe was here first and we have to help save our town.

Banks, etc. in the United States are closed today but in San Felipe, it’s business as usual although with the mail drops, you’ll be a day or two off because of the holiday.   It’s 4:27 a.m. and I better try and get more sleep for the busy day tomorrow.  Be safe and sane and again, Happy Labor Day!

If I have more scoop or photos my NBF was supposed to send me, I will post again later in the morning.  If I don’t have it, I may have to get a NBF!! Ciao for now.
