It’s hump day again, as are all Wednesdays, and today is the SFARP meeting down at the Lodge at Campo Ocotillos and speaking of SFARP (San Felipe Association of Retired Persons) Kat’s Korner is proud to announce that Bruce Barber, author and desert historian, will be one of our featured writers. Bruce has been around the Baja for over 30 years and has a lot of knowledge stored, so he’s offered to share it with us and I for one am very happy about it. You’ll learn things about Baja, Mexico and the desert you never knew; I’ll guarantee it. Photo by Kat
Some very sad news again. “Carol Spradlin, co-founder of Casa de Fe, passed away this morning from a heart attack. She was with Bill (her husband) downtown when she collapsed. The ambulance took her to the Red Cross building, but they were unable to revive her. This is devastating for Bill and the girls at Casa de Fe. Bill will continue to provide a loving home environment for these girls with Lupita and his volunteers. Carol will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in conjunction with the fundraiser she was planning on March 28th at the El Dorado Pavillion. If you would like to help in anyway then please feel free to donate to Casa de Fe in Carol’s name. you can do this by going to their website here through Paypal, or a check made payable to Casa de Fe or a cash donation. There are a few of you who have already made donations and Bill thanks you very much. If you would like to make a cash donation, please contact Vanice or Audrey. They (Casa de Fe) are in pretty good shape with food right now but if you would like to drop off something already cooked let Vanice know. She will try to coordinate meals so they are not overloaded. Pen and Vanice provided pizza for lunch and roasted chicken dinners. No reason for Lupita to cook for a few days. Thanks for any help you can give to them at this time. Please fill free to send a copy of this to your contacts that might want to help.” She will be missed by many and condolences to her family. Here is the contact information for Vanice: 686-116-1530; from the US: 011-1-686-116-1530. Photo by Kat.
I put a poster up the other day telling you about the “Cheeseburger in Paradise” fundraiser for the Snarlin Cholla Race Team, but it was a bit tough to read (because of the black background). So, Sandi Flannigan sent me a new one and thank you Babs! Here’s the scoop on the party I would really hate to miss. Little Jodi, who passed away, was very active with this group and I think the last time I saw her was at the last Cheeseburger in Paradise party I attended.
Our good buddy South Beach Karen, who recently had surgery, has sent a report on her progress: “Post op report.. Thank you all so much for the great vibes. I did very well for this type of operatic, I have 7 pins and a plate plus extra bone to fill a pot hole at the top of the tibia. It was even more than the good docs thought from all the MRI’S and cat scans. I have all sorts of fancy machines to help in the healing and the nurse of the year to care for me. I’m so encouraged and not even upset with the puppies that knocked me over. Just another chapter in my book. Anyhow, hope to be home on the 27th for a month and then back to docs. I will be non weight bearing for 12 weeks then watch out on the dance floor.” That’s one of the things I love about South Beach Karen – she loves to dance and she has never cared if it was by herself or with a partner. Get well fast SB Karen!
Just a reminder, I’ve given up the domain “SanFelipeTequilaFestival” on Go Daddy, so whomever is interested in buying it, you can get it directly from them. Not the site, of course, but the domain. Be careful when you register with them that you don’t check “renew automatically” because even if you write them, they still take the money out of your account. At least that was my experience with them.
My friend Denise just sent me the link to the website which shows her beach house in Northern California which is very cool. You can rent it for a week, weekend or a month. Check it out here. If you simply want to get away on a romantic weekend, this is a beautiful home in Bolinas, California. Denise has a place in the solar section of El Dorado Ranch and she’s my buddy.
Okay, I need to get out the door and go to the bat cave. I do have some good scoop, but I’m waiting for an okay to post it. Cliff hanger ha! Have a great day. Remember the Cancer Walk and the Viva event coming up and, of course, the Score-Tecate Baja 250! Thanks for stopping by.
