It’s been a long time since I’ve written anything on Kat’s Korner and I won’t go into all the reasons why, but part of it is writer’s block. I sit and try and think of what to write, and the light bulb doesn’t come on! I did receive my media credentials for the Baja 250, beginning and finishing here in San Felipe. At first, the rumor was it was only going south, but the map shows it’s going south and north. A little change this year (aside from the date) the media and registration will be held at the Rocodile on the Malecon. February 25-28, with Contingency on the Malecon on Friday. It should be a great race and Shawnee and Bill Bowden, Tina and David Dietrich with Wornout and I covering the race. It’s going to be a blast! Unfortunately, the Baja Sur 500 has been cancelled due to political reasons, which I won’t go into, but at least I went to the first one. Contingency on Friday and the race starts at the arches on Saturday (early am for the bikes).
This was posted on Facebook. I know Cassandra had a daughter although they were estranged for many years. I thought she lived in New York, but I’m not sure and I don’t know her name. “My beautiful friend Cassandra Cassandra Neill Johnson passed away last week in Mexico we have been friends since 1994. Her autopsy says it was a heart attack. He body is being held in Mexico and it will only be released to a family member willing to take a DNA test. I’m looking for anyone who may know info about CJ’s family. I know she has one Daughter who may live in Virginia, DC area or the Bahamas. CJ sang in the 1980s through out the the Bahamas as I remember, she attended boarding school in Sierra Leone In Africa. And she attended Hampton Institute I am In touch with a good friend of hers in Mexico and her landlord. Any info will be much appreciated. I will miss you CJ love and power always. My love.” If you know of any relatives, please respond.
This is from Denny Flannigan’s post on Facelessbook “Monday at noon the Cheeseburger in Paradise party for Baja Racing Teams…Life is muy bueno!! Bring your friends we have everything here. Proceeds go to Racing for Boobs cancer research. Go through the gate at Playa de Oro and follow the signs!” If you missed the cancer walk today, try and make it to this event. It’s for a great cause. We went on a desert run Friday – fourteen rigs out to the Turquoise mine, which is kind of “mined” out. We found some great Quarts and other interesting rocks, but no Turquoise. We all had lunch and then drove back – it was a lot of fun. This was an El Dorado Ranch Activities ride, but I believe all are welcome if you just wait at the Pemex. If I’m wrong, I’m sure someone will let me know. There is another group who go out on runs and I’ll check with my friend if it’s okay to put out his contact information.
It’s a beautiful day today – lucky for the folks at the Pavillion for the “Putt” event. I was going to go, but I don’t golf. Not much news, but at least I wrote something! Oh, rumor has it Telnor will be installing 500 more Wimax phones by June (of which year, I’m not sure). I didn’t realize it until this morning that I had started a column last week and put it in drafts. The bummer is all the events I mentioned have already passed. The grand opening of the Ponderosa Bar is Tuesday. For those who don’t know where it is, it’s on Mar de Cortez – just about across the street from the Mirimar.
Okay, that’s it for today and I know it says Saturday and not Sunday, but that’s when I started writing it. Thanks for reading Kat’s Korner and please check back again!
