Waking up at the crack of dawn, I looked out the window and although it’s not snowing, it’s so very cold.  I told you before that my mother in law gave me an ear wrap to wear out in the cold (which is much more attractive than the robber mask) and I tried it out yesterday at the bat cave, during my “smoke” break.  Now, I know I said I am quitting and I am – but not cold turkey.  Cory Dudley tells me about San Felipe’s weather; “So it’s a bit nippy up there, 66.3 right now and about 45.3 this morning. The cold has caught my attention this year, until it hits sixty degrees out there my front door is closed. After sixty degrees I might, might being the operative word think about taking the garbage out. At sixty-five degrees there are thoughts of heading into town, just thoughts. It’s been a damp cold much like San Francisco, it’s goes to the bone.  The best investment I’ve made in years, a sleeping blanket.“  Too bad they don’t have an electric blanket coat!  Photo by Kat of Kat.

19 January 2012 – Thursday

Shawnee and Bill Bowden sent me this little quip to start off the new year, although I’m sure a lot of you have already read it: “Nice thought to start the year with…… Good morning and welcome to Flight 2012.  We are prepared to take off into the New Year.  Please make sure your attitude and blessings are secured and locked in, in the upright position. All self destructive devices should be turned off at this time. All negativity, hurt and discouragement should be put away.  Should we lose altitude under pressure, during the flight, reach up and pull down a prayer. Prayers will automatically be activated by faith. Once your faith is activated you can assist other passengers. There will be no baggage allowed on this flight. The Captain has cleared us for takeoff.” Those are very good words to live by, especially starting off with a brand new slate because it’s a brand new year.  Well, today the temperature is 9 F but the wind chill advisory is 10 to 15 below and this is why God made “snowbirds”.  Dang, I just don’t understand how people can actually live in this weather, but they do and the lucky ones travel south for the winter.  Poor Debbi and Dale Moore are up in Canada where it’s -36 C and I know they’re dying to get back to San Felipe.  Okay, enough whining.

Wow, I just wrote Wednesday rather than Tuesday getting a little ahead of myself but secretly hoping it was.  So, I heard today that Arturo, Tavo and Ray (three of the original Tres Generaciones) will be playing every Saturday night at La Vaquita Restaurante.  A little trivia about the three generations.  A long time ago, there was a couple who lived here who also opened “Tia’s Bakery”, which was very cool but back to the reason I’m telling you this.  These people were John and Judy Carroll who spent many years at Playas del Sol.  John played the Sax I believe and he, Arturo and Tavo formed El Tres Generaciones.  However, for some reason, I think there was another guy before Arturo who was the youngest, but his career was short lived.  I’ll have to check with Tavo, if I can get a straight answer out of him.  At any rate, it ended up with Tavo, Arturo, Ray and then Bebo.   Photo by Kat.
