Denny & I just got home from Nauti Taco. Carlos made the most delicious dish I have had here in San Felipe. What a wonderful taste of the mainland of Mexico. It is a traditional Mexican meal served in August & September when all the fruits, especially Pomegranates are in season. In the past, I have enjoyed Carlo’s Mole and loved it, but this was the best & most unusual dish I have had in along time. Thank you Kat— it was a special treat.

Hi Troy – I think you are probably talking about the area we call “Playas de San Felipe” if it is on the north side of the Marina (or harbor) and it reaches across the highway. At least in this section (which is a nice part of town; I have friends who live there) you won’t have internet problems because you’ll have a 577 prefix, rather than 576 in Playa de Oro. PDO is very nice, but if you got a good deal, I would say take it. Just a word to the wise. Make sure you lock up your wave runners ….. if you have any further questions, please write me at bajakat@gmail.com – K

Yes, the brown recluse are horrible, I was bitten 2 years ago on my pool chair. My left hand was totally black, got on antibiotics. I aso had a friend in Seattle that got bitten in her wood pile, she lost 2 fingers.
Enough about that, Mantequilla (butters) : my little perro was running as fast as he could to attack a dog outside our fence (which he cannot get out of) ran into a cholla. Well needless to say Greg and I spent 1 hour with tweesers, and Greg holding him down.I heard him yelping and of course ran to rescue him. He is Ok, but I think I will remove the 2 that I have.
Have a good day and Memorial weekend in Paradise. Friends coming from SD.

Some friends where with my wife & I downtown watching the pangas come in last night. As the boats came in and the fish where being unloaded and cleaned. The fishermen just tossed out the guts, beer cans, pop bottles, etc., all over the beach. Now there is a big problem and will take a lot to teach them to take their trash with them and not throw it on the sand.

Hi Kat, been following you for a while now. I have a comment on your monday post. I was the Rescue 4 Score Paramedic at the race at the Borrego pits on Saturday and boy was it hot!! Just a clarification on your comment reference heat stroke. You were suffering (like we all were) from heat exhaustion rather than heat stroke. Heat stroke is characterized by a rapidly falling blood pressure, altered level of conciousness and elevated temperature. This condition has a 85% mortality rate. Just a clarification, I enjoy your site and view it every day!

Hi Kat,
I agree with you about content being copyied without attribution, it’s really annoying (as well as being theft). There’s one particular Baja site that routinely lifts entire articles from my site and are passing it off as their own work.
Have you considered filing a DMCA complaint with the webhost of the thieves? (most will be hosted in the US). I’m considering it for the worst offender. If they keep having to get a new webhost they might eventually realise content is not free, it takes work!

Hi Kat,
Glad to say it was no big deal in San Felipe – we were relieved to know that our straw bale house should be ok as well. We heard that it was felt as far as Cabo San Lucas. Caltech has now upgraded it to a 7.2 earthquake, located 17 miles southwest of Quadalupe Victoria, BC, Mexico. They have not determined which fault it is on, however it is not the San Andreas fault. It was a 60 mile long fault and of the “strike slip” type (vertical quake with ground movement horizontal). There was substantial damage in Mexicali but not sure how much. We felt it up here in Calabasas, CA (San Fernando Vally) and it was not a shaker but a roller. All was ok at our house the water [...] -

Hi Kat. Just a minor correction to Gayles message. The Chinese restaurant (China-Loa) is next to the bookstore in the space that used to be the food bank.
The consignment store just past the arches that she mentions is actually the new food bank location with thrift store, consignment, therapy salon for the handicapped kids and the home of Adopt San Felipe (on Facebook).

I know they have had a lot of people come in and really trash the springs. I know they go out there and dredge and move the big rocks out after the tides come in. I also know people were coming to take a “bath” there and using non biodegradable soap and really causing harm to the whole area. I guess they were really ahead of [...]

Hi Lary - thanks for writing. I will have to agree with you about blaming President Bush, but I did say the last administration so I didn't name names ha ha. Regarding Fannie/Freddie - I suppose the blame should go to voters who allow them to screw everything up. I don't normally get into politics and I know it's obvious I didn't like President Bush (I don't know him personally, so he's probably a nice guy) but big government and the waste involved with taxpayer dollars is insane and that goes for Democrats and Republicans. Geeze, when I was young (a hundred years ago) I voted for Nixon but I also voted for President Jimmy Carter. I was told by an attorney I worked for once that I couldn't be a republican and a democrat, which [...]

Hi again Kat,
Your Millom spam filter is blocking any comment from anybody that uses Telcel 3G internet (because it uses IP addresses that are shared by hundreds of users, so they are almost always flagged as spam IP addresses!).
I had to switch back to Telnor to send this, but most 3G users won’t have that option.
It triggers my own comment spam filter as well, but I accept the message and manually review it, rather than blocking it from being sent at all.

Logistically, it’s easier for me to fly out of Imperial International Airport (IMP), which is down past Costco on Imperial Boulevard. The problem is to get a reasonable fair, you fly to LAX, SFO and then to SEA-TAC. It’s a pain, but getting to San Diego and back is a bigger pain and the hotels are more expensive. You can leave your car at the airport in El Centro (Imperial) and it’s there when you get back.

Hi Kat,
The web address is http://www.renaut.gob.mx/ but you don’t need that (can’t register online).
Just send a text to 2877 with ALTA.curp (alta, then dot, then your curp). If you don’t have a CURP you need to visit a company store or good dealer so they can take a passport copy, but today is probably not the ideal day…
I mentioned on my site (and twitter) a few days ago that the Senate didn’t pass the extension, so the original deadline held.

Right On Kat! The ugly racial profiling of SB 1070 is like spitting in the face of all Mexicans and MExican Americans, who the bill is aimed at. It requires that LE ask people they “reasonably suspect” might be undocumented to show proof they are in Arizona legally. It will open the door to ugly incidents of racial and ethnic profiling of this there is no doubt, it is going on daily already (Sheriff Joe Arpayaso and his 3,000 man posse going after Mexicans on a daily basis is proof of this),
The proponents of #1070 admit freely that the law is aimed at scaring away MExicans (and Mexican Americans), because according to racists like Ariz Senatorial candidate JD Hayworth (who wants to stop not only illegal immigration but also legal immigration), if more MExicans are allowed to reside in Arizona [...] -

Hola Kat! Just wanted to share a video with you pertaining to whats going on in that rogue state of Arizona. As you probably know there is a boycott against Arizona and it’s working, as evidenced by Gov Brewer asking for $250 million to combat what she refers to as negative images of her state. And whats going on in her state is a slap in the face of all Mexicans, Mexican AMericans, and all people who believe in our shared humanity towards one another.
I don’t know what some of those Arizona politicians are thinking but after the ugly SB 1070 ethnic profiling law went into effect another ugly law went into effect banning and making it illegal for any school to teach ethnic or multicultural studies to students. And the Superintendent of Arizona schools “Tom Horne” (who by the [...] -

Unfortuneately I think( from what Im hearing from attendees) it is diminishing due to Cesar(or his people) raising the prices ALREADY for veggies & fruits.
When he started he himself told me how pleased folks were with his veggies & prices. About 2-3 weeks later they are now paying MORE than they were at Cachanilla. So NO MORE sales to those folks! Sorry to hear this! They just seem to shoot themselves in the foot when they do this! -
